Brinjevec is a strong alcoholic beverage brandy by at least 40% alcohol content.
It is produced from common juniper berries. It must be appropriate maturity, they reach in the period between August and November.
The procedure for processing juniper berries begins by grinding juniper berries. Followed by dilution with water in order to create the conditions for the fermentation of yeast and performance.
Mash fermentation takes place slowly and at appropriate temperature conditions it takes about four weeks to finish. Followed by double distillation. In the first distillation soft spirit is made and essential oil is withdrawn, which is then used for medical and cosmetic purposes.
After the second distillation we gain Brinjevec – a colourless, strong alcoholic beverage-specific, bitter taste.
Brinjevec is not intended for regular consumption, as some other drinks, but it is consumed mainly by abundant food and having stomach problems.
